Linux tips, tricks, news, randomness...you name it, it's probably here
I know there are a few of you that read this. Well, I just wrote an article on my favourite genealogy app, GRAMPS. I've been using it since about the same time I started using Ubuntu, and it's pretty great. Go check it out.
Really? I found GRAMPS to be painfully slow. I'm using Legacy 6.0 with wine. I was using PAF with wine, but the fonts were bordering on unreadable in parts of the program.
What version were you using? While I was looking up what formats it supports that I've never tried to use before, I recall seeing something about there being a big speed improvement between version 2.0 and version 3.0. Version 3.0 just came out in March.
Not sure... I used whatever is in the Gutsy repositories. I might have to take a look at 3.0, but I'm really liking Legacy.
Hi Mac, I loved GRAMPS for a long time but recent issues with the database (I have a very large tree) caused me lots of grief so I've switched to http://www.phpgedview.net/ . It's a bit slower but it allows your family to collaborate with you which I find very helpful. Joey Stanford
I usually do my work locally in GRAMPS, and then I upload it to PHPGedView for a nice website. Though I guess if I get myself some hosting, I could just use GRAMPS's website export thing...
GRAMPS offer free hosting to any site built on their software.
