This is a little friendly reminder to go exercise your right to vote. Remember: it's your civic duty.
Oh, and Californians, please vote NO on Proposition 8. Proposition 8 would legalize discrimination against quite a lot of people. You may think you don't know anyone that's gay, lesbian, or bisexual, but are you really sure? For all you know, a vote for Prop 8 could be a vote to legalize discrimination against your best friend's sister.

When I go to "Ubuntu Linux Tips & Tricks" I really do not expect or hope to get embroiled in a political argument.
Urging people to vote? Admirable.
Urging people to take a stand on a certain issue? Not so much. Were I a California voter, I would definitely vote YES on P. 8, and if it's my best friend's sister so be it.
Um, you chose to "get embroiled in a political argument." Replying was not required. If you don't answer, you can't be arguing, now can you?
And I personally don't consider it very "ubuntu" to discriminate. Apparently you do think discrimination is the proper way to treat your fellow human beings.
I read the blog because I am very interested in Ubuntu. Naturally, this involves reading all the posts. The act of reading got me angry enough that I didn't want you to "get away with it", lest this blog degenerate into a vessel for political propaganda. I'd rather be vociferous about my thoughts--so that I had a hope of the issue getting resolved, or at least feel that it cause some, however minute, change--than stand idly around getting mad with myself.
>it very "ubuntu" to discriminate.
And you, in turn, condescend to those that have solid reasons for being against LGBT. Are you also for a law proclaiming robbery legal? After all, it's the only way some people can support themselves, and we shouldn't be haters.
>you do think discrimination is...proper
No. See above.

I think I've made my position clear enough, and will probably not respond--since it'd become hypocritical.
Have a nice day, and keep bloggin'!
I've yet to actually hear a "solid reason" to be in favor of suspending equal rights when LGBTQ people are mentioned.
By the way, this isn't the only Ubuntu-related blog that mentions Prop 8. Steve Stalcup and Og Maciel also mentioned their beliefs regarding Prop 8 on Planet Ubuntu. I rather expect others will join.
timmy: since when same-gender couples damage anyone?
Google took a clear position on this.
I'm heterosexual and I definitely agree with Google that "we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love".
It's MacKenzie's blog, and she can go off-topic for a post if she wants to.
A same-sex marriage is their relationship, not yours -- so I fail to see why anyone else should have a say about it. I'm hetero, FWIW.
mackezie, don't you just love blog police :)
